Change is hard, but it is both necessary and inevitable. Jim Walters, during this week's Power of Learning Show with Andy Brownell on KROC-AM, talked about successful strategies for implementing change in your workplace or other organizations.

The Power of Learning Show is all about critical thinking and being aware of the effects of change and helping employees deal with their concerns is a mark of a leader who employs critical thinking skills.

Walters, who often conducts corporate seminars on navigating change, says he leans heavily on the work of Dr. Gene Hall at the University of Nevada Las, Vegas. Hall is considered an expert on the Concerns Based Adoption Model, which Walters refers to as the SIT model. The "S" is for concerns about self and the effects will have on the worker's personal life, the "I" covers concerns about the impact on the organization, and the "T" alludes to concerns about the tasks an employee is being directed to perform as a result of a change.

During the radio program on Monday, Walters likened the process to the stages of grief and failing to take the time to hear and address the concerns covered by the SIT model will produce resistance and other roadblocks in the implementation of change.

The Power of Learning Show is featured on the fourth Monday of every month during the Rochester Today Show on KROC-AM from 10-11 a.m.
