MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a 2-month-old Mankato baby is on a ventilator after suffering serious brain injuries.

KTOE-AM reports the parents brought the infant, unresponsive, to a Mankato hospital early Tuesday. The child was flown to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, where doctors say a CT scan found the brain injuries as well as fractured ribs and a broken collarbone.

A hearing on an emergency child protection petition was held Friday. Assistant Blue Earth County Attorney Mark Lindahl said the infant remains in intensive care, on a ventilator.

Lindahl asked Judge Gregory Anderson to grant the county temporary custody of the baby and an 18-month-old brother while the injuries are investigated.

The parents' attorney asked Anderson to allow the couple to keep the 18-month-old at home. But the judge denied the request.
