Rochester, MN (KROC AM News )- For a second straight year, Rochester residents had to endure one of the coldest Februarys on record.

According to the National Weather Service, the average monthly temperature last month was a measly 7.8 degrees, a whopping 12.5 degrees below normal.That makes it the 5th coldest February on record - one year after the city endured its fourth coldest February.

Above average temperatures were recorded on just four days during the month (7th-10th). And, there were only four days when the daily high was 32 degrees or warmer.

Snowfall measured at the city airport during the month totaled 10.6 inches, about 2 inches above normal.

The meteorological winter ( December - February )  is now in the books - but that does not mean wintry weather is behind us.The short range forecast calls for a winter storm to move into the region Monday night and it could dump 3 - 5 inches of snow by Tuesday evening.

Cold weather is expected Wednesday but warmer temps are predicted by the end of the week.
