Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede would like to see a Personal Rapid Transit System as part of the Destination Medical Center plan.

During the Mayor's regular monthly appearance on "Rochester Today" with Andy Brownell Monday morning on KROC-AM, Brede indicated he is promoting the idea to meet the public transit needs of the community as the DMC plan progresses.

A Personal Rapid Transit System, or RPT, uses light-weight cabs that carry 3 to 6 people on elevated tracks. The highly automated systems could offer "on-demand" transportation for people moving between the Mayo Clinic's Saint Mary's campus and downtown Rochester, while also circulating people throughout the downtown area and possibly connecting the airport and RCTC campus to the city's core.

Monday's show could be the last for Mayor Brede, at least until the November election.  He is seeking a fourth term as Mayor and intends to file for the position when the two-week filing period opens May 20th. Brede would need to take a leave from the radio show while he is campaigning, unless he ends up running for re-election unopposed.
