The criminal complaint says the traffic stop happened in northwest Rochester on Jan. 5. The court document was filed on Monday.

A Rochester Police officer stopped a vehicle in the area of 41st St. and West Frontage Rd. Northwest after seeing the driver, identified as 20-year-old Isaiah Ashton Johnson, operating a vehicle with a revoked driver’s license, the court document says.

The complaint states the officer suspected Johnson of driving impaired and ordered him out of the vehicle to conduct field sobriety testing. Johnson failed the tests and was arrested.

Upon his arrest Johnson told the officer he had over 80 pills on him. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a baggie containing 135 blue M30 pills that later tested positive for fentanyl, according to the complaint.

Johnson was arraigned Monday on a felony first-degree drug possession charge. His bail was set at $200,000 without conditions.

Court records say the Jan. 5 traffic stop happened while Johnson was out on $10,000 conditional bail set in a Steele County case in which he’s accused of aggravated first-degree robbery after he and a juvenile allegedly jumped and robbed a man in Owatonna in September of 2022.

Johnson is also facing a gross misdemeanor weapons violation charge in Mower County after Austin Police found a bullet in his vehicle when they responded to a firearms complaint in Austin this past June, the complaint in the Mower County case alleges.

The cases in Steele and Mower Counties against Johnson are still pending. His next appearance in the Rochester fentanyl bust case is set for later this month.
