Salem, VA (Learfield Wire Services) -  A St. Thomas defense which allowed less than 10 points-a-game during a undefeated regular season was dominated by Mount Union in the Stagg Bowl Friday night, 49-35.

That contest is also the national championship game for NCAA Division Three  football.  The Tommies jumped to a 14-0 first-half lead and seemed to be in charge, but Mount Union roared back, scoring five touchdowns in the second half.  After the Tommies went up 21-14, Mount Union scored three times in five minutes and was never in trouble the rest of the way. St. Thomas finishes with a record of 14-1.
