St. Paul, MN (KROC-AM News) -The St. Paul Fire Department responded to a fatal fire Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the department says firefighters responded to a residential neighborhood around 12:30 p.m. after a passerby called 911 and reported seeing smoke coming from the windows of a house. The first firefighters to arrive at the scene made a forced entry into the home and found the victim near the front entrance.

The man was brought out of the burning home and firefighters attempted lifesaving measures in the front yard before the victim was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The man's name has not been released.

It was the first fire fatality to occur in St. Paul this year.

The St. Paul Fire Department spokesman says two pets were found dead inside the residence and a third managed to escape. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
