Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A second Rochester man has now been charged with being involved in a gun-related incident at Apache Mall.

The incident began as a shoplifting report on April 24th and escalated when a store employee went after and confronted the two. That’s when one of the men pulled out a gun, pointed it at the face of the employee and said he was going to “pop him.”

The two fled but the one who had the gun was identified and charged a few days later. Police say 23-year-old Tamarick Shaffer said the weapon was a BB gun. He was charged with armed robbery and assault.

The other man was later identified as 19-year-old Romel Roberts. He was identified in part after he told students at his school that he was involved in the incident.

The school resource officer became aware of his comments and informed an investigator. According to the criminal complaint, Roberts “admitted to being the second person with Shaffer at the time of the robbery.”
