Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - It appears the search for a missing Rochester man has ended.

A spokesperson for the Rochester Police Department this evening confirmed that officers responded this afternoon to a report of a deceased person found in the 1000 block of 1st Street Northwest, about two blocks north of St. Marys Hospital. The Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office is currently working to positively identify the remains and determine the cause of death.

The discovery occurred only hours after the Rochester Police Department issued an advisory that renewed an earlier request for assistance in finding Thomas McElroy. Residents and property owners in the vicinity of St. Marys Hospital check their yards, sheds, garages, areas beneath decks, and other places for any sign of the 43-year-old Rochester man.

McElroy was reported missing on December 27 after he left the hospital against medical advice. He was last seen walking along 11th Avenue Northwest in clothing that was not appropriate for the weather conditions.
