Sandstone Man Sent to Prison For Fatal DUI Wreck

MORA, Minn. (AP) — A Sandstone man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for a drunken driving crash that killed a popular student athlete last winter.

KSTP-TV reports 34-year-old Charles Hendricks was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty to one count of criminal vehicular homicide in September.

Hendricks was given credit for 271 days served. He also will have to pay $11,000 in restitution.

Prosecutors say Hendricks was driving drunk on the night of Feb. 9 when his pickup hit a car driven by 17-year-old Colton Nelson near Sandstone. Nelson died in the crash, and two teens in Nelson's car were also injured.

Nelson was a senior at East Central High School, a top football and basketball player and homecoming king.
