Wednesday was a big day for the Destination Medical Center initiative in Rochester, but City Attorney Terry Adkins says two even more important dates are coming in January and March.

During his monthly appearance on the Rochester Today show with Tracy McCray and Andy Brownell on KROC-AM, Adkins took some time to describe the next steps in the DMC process. He says Wednesday's informal presentation of the proposed Destination Medical Center Development Plan will be followed by a month of reflection. During that time, members of the DMC Corporation Board, the Rochester City Council, and citizens will have an opportunity closely study the details of the plan and comment before the panel appointed to oversee the DMC project votes in late January on whether to adopt the development plan (Follow this link to download or view the plan).

Adkins says that would trigger the start of a 60-day period leading to an "up or down" vote on the plan by the City Council.  He noted the DMC legislation does not allow the Council to make any changes to the proposal adopted by the DMCC Board, but the Council can  suggest changes if it votes to reject the plan.

The radio show also covered Adkins recent trip to Texas for the National League of Cities meeting, which included an interesting presentation on police community relations in light of the Ferguson, Missouri crisis.

Wednesday also marked an important anniversary for Adkins. He reported for work as Rochester's City Attorney on December 17, 1990, and his 24 years on the job makes him Rochester's longest-serving City Attorney.
