Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester teenager is scheduled to be sentenced in February for his involvement in a drive-by shooting last summer.

18-year-old Lebron Benson Giwa today entered a guilty plea to a second-degree assault charge. Under the terms of the plea deal, the felony assault charge was substituted for a charge of aiding and abetting drive-by shooting toward a person.

Giwa was arrested and charged in the case in early September. According to the criminal complaint, he was accused of driving one of two vehicles that were the source of gunfire directed at a group of people outside a residence in the 2800 block of Northern Valley Drive Northeast on the night of August 23.

The court document says the shooting followed a fistfight that occurred in the parking lot of the nearby Bowlocity entertainment center along North Broadway. Surveillance camera video shows Giwa was driving one of three vehicles that delivered participants in the fight to that location.

The video also shows the car driven by Giwa and another vehicle pursuing a third vehicle out of the parking lot and in the direction of the neighborhood where the shooting took place. Police reports indicate up to 30 shots were fired, with bullets striking a nearby apartment building and two vehicles. No injuries were reported.

The charges against Giwa included an allegation that he held the gun that was used by a juvenile passenger to fire shots from his car during the shooting. Two juveniles, ages 14 and 16, were also arrested as suspects in the case along with another adult. 18-year-old Raul Rios of Chester is currently scheduled to go to trial in March on a drive-by shooting charge.
