Minnesota Pursuit Suspect Dies of Self-Inflicted Gunshot Wound

Cannon Falls, MN (KROC-AM News)- The suspect of a southeastern Minnesota law enforcement pursuit died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday night.

Officials say members of law enforcement did not fire their service weapons at the suspect. Two sheriff’s offices and a police department were involved in the pursuit.

A news release issued Sunday night by the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the report of a driver ramming a West Concord Police Officer during an attempted traffic stop in the Dodge County town shortly before 7:40 Sunday night.

A witness of the crash reported following the suspect vehicle and gave its location to Dodge County deputies. The deputies then attempted to stop the driver but the vehicle continued to flee which initiated a law enforcement pursuit, the news release says.

Law enforcement at one point successfully deployed stop sticks during the chase, which took the pursuing authorities north into Goodhue County, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office says.

The pursuit ended in the Mayo Clinic parking lot in Cannon Falls where the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office and Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office says the pursuit suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Cannon Falls Police Department also issued a news release, saying officers responded to the parking lot where multiple agencies were assisting around 8:15 p.m.

The Cannon Falls news release says the suspect refused law enforcement commands to exit before displaying a gun and shooting himself. All three agencies reported no officers of deputies fired their weapons.

Cannon Falls police say a social media rumor indicating officers fired their weapons at the suspect is not accurate.

The Minnesota BCA has been called in to lead the investigation. The name of the deceased has not been released.

The West Concord Police Department says the officer allegedly rammed by the purusit suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries and has since been discharged to recover at home. They thanked citizens who rendered aid to the officer.

The State Patrol issued an accident report regarding a squad car ramming in West Concord. The report identifies the officer as 40-year-old David Curtis Myrom and the driver of the ramming vehicle as 48-year-old Adam Michael Lawrence of Cannon Falls.
