Officer’s Accused Killer’s Trial Underway in St. Cloud

Prosecutors in the trial of a man accused of killing a Mendota Heights police officer have played squad car video that shows Officer Scott Patrick being shot.

The video was played Thursday, the first day of testimony in the trial of Brian Fitch Sr.

The video shows Patrick falling to the ground after pulling over a green Grand Am.

Fitch is charged with first-degree murder and other counts in connection with the July 30 death of Patrick and a subsequent confrontation with St. Paul police.

The testimony began after opening statements, in which prosecutors said they intend to prove that a gun found in Fitch's vehicle was used to kill Patrick. But the defense says the prosecution's timeline doesn't fit Fitch's whereabouts that day.
