OAKDALE, Minn. (AP) — Authorities say a suspect was fatally shot and an Oakdale police officer was wounded in a confrontation during a search.

Police say Oakdale officers and a Bureau of Criminal Apprehension officer went to a home around 8 a.m. Thursday to conduct a search as part of a criminal investigation. The officers encountered the suspect at some point during entry and shots were fired. The officer was hit in the arm, and the wounded suspect died at Regions Hospital.

The St. Paul Police Department has taken the lead in the investigation instead of the BCA because a BCA officer was involved.

Authorities have not released the names of the suspect or the officer, and aren't saying who shot whom. Police have also declined to say what the search was about.
