No Endorsement for Kahn Seat
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Challengers trying to unseat a Minneapolis legislator who has been in office for over four decades have come up short.
DFL Representative Phyllis Kahn faced off against political activist Ilhan Omar and Somali community advocate Mohamud Noor on Saturday. All three were vying for the DFL endorsement for House District 60B but failed.
The candidates needed the support of at least 60 percent of delegates at the district convention. Omar fell just shy of that threshold with 55 percent on the fifth and final ballot.
Kahn received 33 percent. Noor wasn't on the final ballot and his supporters voted not to endorse.
The Star Tribune reports the three will now face off in a primary.
Kahn has served in the state House since she was first elected in 1972.
