MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Tracy Claeys has taken over for Jerry Kill, following the Minnesota coach's sudden retirement.

The Gophers have begun the process of moving past the sad news that Kill wasn't healthy enough to fulfill the job anymore, but not much else about the program will change with Claeys in charge.

The defensive coordinator has been an assistant under Kill for 21 years, so their philosophies are in sync even if their personalities are different. After Kill made the announcement Wednesday that he's ending his career due to the drain of dealing with epilepsy, Claeys said he wants to be the next permanent coach at Minnesota.

The Gophers host 15th-ranked Michigan on Saturday.  Kick off Saturday is 6 o'clock with our coverage beginning at 5.  Listen for the play by play with Mike Grimm and Rochester's Darryl Thompson on 1340 KROC AM.
