Police spokesman John Elder said he didn't have any other details about the arrest in the early Saturday attack, but that further information would be released at an afternoon media briefing.

Police say someone shot the officer as he and his partner were standing by their marked squad car at around 5 a.m. yesterday after having just finished handling a burglary call. The officer's partner drove him to a hospital, where Elder says he's in "satisfactory but stable condition."

The police chief says it appears the officer was targeted because he was a member of the force.
