Major League Baseball Free Agency Begins
Twins free agents: Boyer, Cotts, Duensing, Pelfrey
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins will have four pitchers become free agents.
Relievers Blaine Boyer, Neal Cotts and Brian Duensing and starter Mike Pelfrey were among the 139 players announced Monday as free agents by the Major League Baseball Players Association. Right fielder Torii Hunter also officially became a free agent, but he has announced his retirement.
Boyer had the best 2015 season of the bunch, posting a 2.49 ERA in 68 appearances after joining the Twins over the winter on a minor-league contract. The 34-year-old has a 4.22 career ERA over nine seasons.
Free agents can begin signing new deals as soon as Saturday.
