Let me start by saying I am not a political person. Let me add that I'm not a fan of either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton. I’m actually seriously considering casting a write-in vote for myself for president. Both candidates have their fair share of shadiness and a track record for saying one thing and doing another.

I have found it extremely interesting to watch the past several days as Trump and his allies have upped their rhetoric on the idea of the election being rigged, and all the election experts that are being paraded about by the media to dispel that idea. I mean, is it really impossible to think that an election could be manipulated in some way to favor one candidate over another?

In reality, there are numerous cases of voter fraud on record across the country. Back as recently as May of this year, CBS in Los Angeles did an investigative report on suggestions that dead people were voting in Los Angeles County. What they uncovered was that more than 200 dead people had been voting in elections even though they were, indeed, deceased - and some had been voting for as long as the past eight years. The question is whether that kind of activity could happen on a large enough scale to have an actual impact on a national election...

But, what if an election could be rigged, or at least tilted heavily in one candidate's favor, BEFORE voters ever went to their polling stations to cast their ballots? How could something like that possibly happen? Well, if the leaking of emails from high-ranking officials of the Democratic National Committee is to be believed, that's what may have been happening during the Democratic primary.

According to a story in the Washington Post, "Many of the most damaging emails suggest the committee was actively trying to undermine Bernie Sanders's presidential campaign. Basically all of these examples came late in the primary -- after Hillary Clinton was clearly headed for victory -- but they belie the national party committee's stated neutrality in the race even at that late stage."

And then there's the media. An unbiased bastion for truth, freedom and the American way. Right? To the average person, it could certainly seem like the media is focusing on Donald Trump's indiscretions much more than they are focusing on Hillary Clinton's. Of course, one could argue that the media has focused on Trump, for good and bad, much more than they have paid attention to Clinton over the entire course of the campaign.

So, is this election being rigged, as Donald Trump is so vociferously suggesting? Probably not. But is it impossible? Some would say nothing is impossible...
