(Rochester, Minn)-- The Rochester Honkers Baseball Club announced the signing of Connor Schaefbauer, a middle-infielder from the University of Minnesota.

Schaefbauer, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound sophomore from Sioux Falls, S.D. is the Golden Gophers starting second baseman.  The left hitting leadoff man is currently hitting .267 with six doubles, three triples, and 10 RBIs.  He is 10 of 11 in stolen bases and posts a .987 fielding percentage, leading the team in both categories.  Schaefbauer has committed only 2 errors in 34 games.

As a freshman, Schaefbauer was named to the All-Big Ten Third Team.  He hit .279 with 18 RBIs, while posting a .359 on base percentage.  He started 37 games at second for the Gophers, turning 18 double plays, with a .993 fielding percentage in 145 chances in the field.  He was named Big Ten Rookie of the Week in April of 2013 for his performance against North Dakota State and Iowa.  He was the first Gopher to earn this honor since Tim Windle received the honor in 2011.

The Golden Gophers host Penn State at Siebert Field this weekend for a three-game set beginning on Friday.
