LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — An 18-year-old man has been arrested for the shooting death of a 17-year-old in La Crosse.

The La Crosse Tribune reports police arrested the man at about 11 p.m. Friday after a four-hour standoff.

Police say the suspect fired at high school student George Miller while he was a passenger in a car after a confrontation Friday morning.

Lieutenant Pat Hogan says Miller ran away but the suspect followed. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire minutes later, and Miller died at the scene. Hogan said the shooting was not random.

The suspect is expected to be charged with first-degree intentional homicide when he appears Monday in La Crosse County Circuit Court.

It was the sixth shooting in eight days and could be La Crosse's first intentional homicide in two years.
