Tenacity remains a challenge for Minnesota's Walker

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Mo Walker has plenty of discipline. He dropped about 60 pounds after Minnesota coach Richard Pitino was hired, to make sure he could keep up with the faster-paced style.

The Minnesota center's biggest challenge these days revolves around mental toughness. This is more about tenacity for a guy with a low-key personality trying to maintain the grit required to be a productive defender and rebounder in the Big Ten.

Walker showed plenty of that on Saturday after a halftime prod from Pitino. He finished 12 points and a career-high 13 rebounds to lead the Gophers past Illinois.
