Ellison Loses Bid to Lead Democratic National Committee
Atlanta, GA (Learfield) -- Minnesota Congressman Keith Ellison lost two close votes Saturday in an effort to become chairman of the Democratic National Committee.
The support of former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton helped push Tom Perez over the top. Perez is the former Labor Secretary in the Obama administration and he becomes the party's first Latino chair.
He immediately nominated Ellison to become deputy chair of the party and the vote in favor was unanimous. As deputy chair Ellison won't have to give up his seat in Congress.
