KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A suicide bomber has blown himself up at a volleyball tournament in eastern Afghanistan, killing at least 45 people in the country's deadliest terrorist attack this year.

Officials say dozens more were wounded, many critically.

A spokesman for the provincial governor of Paktika province, bordering Pakistan, says the attack happened during an inter-district tournament attended by a large crowd. He says the bomber was on foot and mingling with the crowd when he detonated his explosives.

The bloodshed came just hours after Parliament approved agreements allowing U.S. and NATO troops to remain in the country past the end of the year.
