The winning streak is the Indians' longest since they won 10 straight in September 2013.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— The Royals were 6-2 winners over St. Louis behind Danny Duffy, who limited the Cardinals to a pair of first-inning runs and six hits with eight strikeouts in eight innings. Kendrys (KEHN'-drees) Morales went 4-for-4 for the Royals, including a two-run single while Kansas City was scoring six times off Adam Wainwright in the first inning. Matt Holliday smacked a two-run homer for the Cardinals, who now trail the NL Central-leading Cubs by 10 games.

— The Cubs had dropped six of seven before Kris Bryant homered three times and had six RBIs in Chicago's 11-8 win at Cincinnati. Jake Arrieta (ar-ee-EH'-tuh) also went deep and gave up five runs and four hits in five innings for his 12th win of the season. Anthony Rizzo also went deep for the Cubbies, who dealt the Reds their fifth loss in six games.

— Tampa Bay's 11-game losing streak is over after Nick Franklin homered and drove in a career-high five runs to lead a 13-7 pounding of Boston. Logan Forsythe and Desmond Jennings also homered in support of rookie left-hander Blake Snell, who allowed four runs and eight hits over 5 1-3 innings to get his first big league win. The Red Sox have dropped three straight to fall 4 1/2 games behind the Al East-leading Orioles.

— Washington erased a 4-0 deficit by putting together a five-run third in an 11-4 romp over the New York Mets. Anthony Rendon (rehn-DOHN') had three RBIs and Ben Revere was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and one ribbie. The Nationals have won two straight since a seven-game skid to open a 3 1/2-game lead over Miami in the NL East, with the Mets another half-game back.

— Daniel Mengden picked up his first major league win and Marcus Semien cracked a three-run homer and had four RBIs in Oakland's 8-3 pounding of San Francisco. Mengden held the Giants to two runs and four hits over 7 2/3 innings to help the Athletics send the NL West leaders to just their third loss in 16 games. The Giants saw their division lead trimmed to seven games over the Dodgers.

— Yasiel Puig (YAH'-se-uhl pweeg) lined a tiebreaking, two-run single and the Dodgers avoided a four-game sweep by beating the Pirates 5-4 in Pittsburgh. Puig's go-ahead hit sparked a four-run fifth before Howie Kendrick and A.J. Ellis hit RBI singles later in the inning. The rally made a winner out of Scott Kazmir, who fell behind 4-0 in the bottom of the first before allowing just one hit over the next four innings.

— Carlos Correa lifted a sacrifice fly while Houston scratched out a pair of ninth-inning runs to beat the Angels 4-2. The Astros rallied for their eighth victory in nine games after Matt Shoemaker held them to five hits in six shutout innings. Will Harris worked in and out of a no-out, bases-loaded jam to close out the win.

— The Texas Rangers wrapped up a weird win at 2:44 a.m. Tuesday, rallying after a rain delay of more than 3 1/2 hours in the ninth inning to beat the New York Yankees 9-6 with maybe 100 fans left in the stands. Yankee Stadium was so deserted that shouts from Texas players cheering in the dugout for Adrian Beltre's go-ahead, two-run single could easily be heard bouncing around the ballpark.

— Carlos Gonzalez launched a three-run homer and Jon Gray struck out eight in seven innings of Colorado's 9-5 verdict over Toronto, spoling Troy Tulowitzki's (too-loh-IHTS'-keez) return to Denver. Tulowitzki went 0 for 4 in his first game at Coors Field since Toronto acquired him from the Rockies last July 27. He received a standing ovation when he batted in the second inning.

— Vince Velasquez returned from the disabled list to toss five shutout innings and Maikel (MY'-kehl) Franco drove in three runs as Philadelphia ripped Arizona 8-0. Velasquez scattered five hits and struck out seven in his first outing since suffering a right biceps strain on June 8. Franco's RBI single in the sixth broke a scoreless tie before hie singled home a pair in the Phillies' six-run seventh.

U.S. men's hoops squad set

NEW YORK (AP) — Kevin Durant and Carmelo Anthony are among the 12 players who have been selected to represent the U.S. men's basketball team at the Rio Olympics.

Durant and Anthony are the only players selected by USA Basketball with previous Olympic experience after a number of stars decided to skip the upcoming Summer Games.

The U.S. roster includes Warriors starters Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes, along with Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan of the Raptors. Cleveland's Kyrie (KY'-ree) Irving, Indiana's Paul George and Chicago's Jimmy Butler also made the team, as did Sacramento's DeMarcus Cousins and DeAndre Jordan of the Clippers.

Don't expect much from Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — Rio de Janeiro's acting governor didn't exactly promote local tourism in describing his concerns about the upcoming Olympics.

Francisco Dornelles has warned in an interview with O Globo newspaper that the Summer Games could be a "big failure," saying security and mobility are big worries ahead of the games in August.

He says the state is still waiting on an $860 million payout from the federal government aimed at shoring up state coffers ahead of the event.

The metro line that was meant to ferry tourists to the main Olympic venue in western Rio is still not ready. And Dornelles has warned that there's only enough gas money to continue police patrols through the end of this week.

Double loss for Argentines

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) — Some fans, players, and even Argentina's president want Lionel (lee-ah-NEHL') Messi to reconsider. Other supporters on Monday were simply sad that he's quitting the national team at age 29.

Messi shocked his native country with his abrupt resignation from international soccer after Chile defeated Argentina 4-2 on penalties after a 0-0 draw in the Copa American final on Sunday. His decision was announced hours after he missed a penalty kick in the title game.

Messi never won an international tournament with Argentina.

Loss to Iceland puts England coach on ice

NICE, France (AP) — Iceland has pulled off one of the biggest surprises in the history of soccer's European Championship, leading England's coach to announce he was leaving.

Iceland has reached the quarterfinals by scoring a pair of goals early in the first half of a 2-1 triumph against England. The Brits were shut out after Wayne Rooney scored on a penalty kick in the fourth minute. Iceland tallied twice in the first 18 minutes and played superb defense in the second half to pull off the stunner.

Roy Hodgson said after the match that "now is the time for someone else to oversee the progress of this young, hungry and extremely talented group of players." Hodgson's contract was up for renewal after the tournament.

Iceland will take on host France.
