Cavs get even as LeBron outplays Steph

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — The NBA Finals are tied at a game apiece after the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors split a pair of overtime games in Oakland.

The Cavaliers blew an 11-point lead late in the fourth quarter Sunday night before pulling out a 95-93 victory over the Warriors in Game 2. LeBron James shot just 11 of 34 from the field but finished with 39 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists for his fifth career triple-double in a finals game.

James hit a pair of free throws that put Cleveland ahead 92-87 early in overtime, but the Warriors scored the next six points to go out in front before Matthew Dellavedova hit two free throws with 10.1 seconds to play.

It marked the first time an NBA Finals has opened with back-to-back overtime games.

Timofey Mozgov had 17 points and 11 boards for the Cavaliers, who improved to 3-0 without Kyrie Irving in the playoffs. Irving is done for the season after fracturing a knee cap in Game 1.

The Cavaliers enjoyed an 83-72 lead after James drained a 3-pointer with 3:13 remaining in regulation, but the Warriors closed the fourth quarter on a 15-4 run to extend the game. Stephen Curry forced OT by hitting a lay-in with 7.2 seconds left in regulation, one of his few attempts that went in. The reigning MVP shot just 5-for-23 from the field and 2-for-15 from beyond the arc in scoring 19 points.

Curry's last shot was an air ball with the Warriors down by one with about five seconds left. He also had a pass batted away by Tristan Thompson on the Warriors' final possession, sealing the victory for the Cavaliers.

Klay Thompson had a team-high 34 points for the Warriors, who travel to Cleveland for Game 3 on Tuesday.

Men's final ends tournament

PARIS (AP) — Novak Djokovic has fallen short in his quest to complete a career Grand Slam.

The top-seeded Djokovic dropped the French Open final for the third time, falling to No. 8 Stan Wawrinka, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. The outcome puts an end to Djokovic's 28-match winning streak and keeps him stuck on eight Grand Slam titles.

Wawrinka earned his first French Open crown after exiting in the first round of last year's tournament. He had lost 17 of his previous matches against Djokovic before earning his second major championship, and first since last year's Australian Open.

Cole Train keeps chugging

UNDATED (AP) — Gerrit Cole became the National League's first nine-game winner of the season on Sunday and allowed the Pittsburgh Pirates to remain red hot.

Cole is 9-2 with a league-low 1.73 ERA after allowing six hits over seven innings of the Bucs' 3-0 shutout of Atlanta. The Pirates' ace has tossed seven shutout innings in each of his last two starts, and hasn't allowed more than three runs in any of his 12 appearances this season.

Starling Marte provided a two-run single while the Pirates scored three times in the fifth inning of their 13th victory in 16 games. The hot stretch began after Pittsburgh fell a season-worst four games under .500 at 18-22.

Elsewhere in the majors:

— The St. Louis Cardinals put together a three-run eighth to beat the Dodgers 4-2 in the rubber match of their three-game series in Los Angeles. Matt Holliday and Mark Reynolds sandwiched RBI doubles around a tiebreaking single by Jhonny Peralta, who also sparked the Redbirds' comeback with a sixth-inning homer.

— Pinch-hitter Jeff Franoeur snapped a 3-3 stalemate by lashing a two-run double with two out in the seventh to push Philadelphia past San Francisco 6-4. Maikel Franco and Odubel Herrera hit solo homers and Cody Asche lined a two-run single as the Phillies ended a three-game skid and halted the Giants' six-game road winning streak.

— Jay Bruce homered twice to drive in all four runs, and Johnny Cueto earned his first win in almost a month as the Reds beat San Diego 4-0. Cueto and relievers J.J. Hoover and Aroldis Chapman combined to retire the last 15 batters, helping the Reds avoid a sweep.

— Starlin Castro poked a pair of RBI singles and Chris Coghlan hit a two-run single as the Chicago Cubs beat Washington for the third time in four days, 6-3. Kris Bryant had three hits and scored twice to support Kyle Hendricks, who held the Nationals to two earned runs in five innings.

— The New York Mets are back in first place in the NL East after Curtis Granderson homered twice in a 6-3 victory at Arizona. Eric Campbell added a two-run shot, Wilmer Flores hit a solo homer and Jacob deGrom struck out 10 while yielding two earned runs in seven innings.

— Florida beat Colorado 3-2 on Adeiny Hechavarria's solo homer with two out in the 10th inning. Marcell Ozuna singled home a pair in the first inning to help the Marlins take two of three in the series.

— Brett Gardner cracked a three-run homer, Jose Pirela hit his first big league round-tripper and Chris Young went deep to lead the New York Yankees to their season-high sixth consecutive victory, 6-2 over the Angels. CC Sabathia worked six innings before he was ejected for arguing balls and strikes while the Yankees were batting.

— Chris Colabello ran his hitting streak to 17 games with a two-run, walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to send Toronto to its season-high fifth consecutive win, 7-6 over Houston. Jose Bautista hit a pair of solo homers and Russell Martin added a two-run shot as the Blue Jays completed a three-game sweep, three weeks after they were swept in a four-game set at Houston.

— Rusney Castillo contributed both a solo homer and an RBI single while Boston erupted for seven runs in the eighth inning of a 7-4 victory and a three-game sweep of Oakland. Xander Boegaerts put the Red Sox ahead with a two-run double and scored on Alejandro De Aza's RBI single.

— Chris Archer allowed no earned runs while fanning 11 in seven innings of Tampa Bay's 3-1 verdict over Seattle. According to STATS, Archer became the first pitcher since at least 1914 with at least 10 strikeouts and no walks in three consecutive starts.

— Matt Wieters belted his first homer in 13 months and Adam Jones smacked a first-inning blast as Baltimore beat Cleveland 7-3. Travis Snider lined a two-run single for the Orioles, who've won three of four since a five-game skid.

— Minnesota continues to top the AL Central by a game over Kansas City after Mike Pelfrey scattered eight hits in eight innings of a 2-0 shutout of Milwaukee. Eddie Rosario hit an RBI double and came around to score on Eduardo Escobar's triple later in the second inning to help the Twins elude a three-game sweep.

— Kansas City blew a 3-0 lead in the seventh before Salvador Perez hit a solo home run with two outs in the eighth to push the Royals past the Rangers 4-3. Wade Davis picked up the victory and Greg Holland pitched a perfect ninth for his ninth save in 10 opportunities.

— Sixth-inning homers by Yoenis Cespedes and J.D. Martinez powered Detroit to its second straight victory since an eight-game skid, 6-4 over the Chicago White Sox. Alfredo Simon struck out seven and allowed four runs in eight innings for his sixth win.

Rangers place pitcher on DL

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) —The Texas Rangers have put right-hander Ross Ohlendorf on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right groin. The reliever is 1-0 with one save and a 3.52 ERA in eight appearances this season.

Truex ends Sprint Cup drought

LONG POND, Pa. (AP) — Martin Truex Jr. led 97 of 160 laps in winning Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway.

Truex had gone two years without a victory before becoming the 10th driver to qualify for the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship. He dominated off late restarts down the stretch to snap a 69-race winless streak.

Kevin Harvick was second, followed by Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano and Kurt Busch.

All Mercedes in Canada

MONTREAL (AP) — Lewis Hamilton started the Canadian Grand Prix from the front, and that's where he finished in his fourth win of the season. The defending series champion held off Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg.

PGA-MEMORIAL

A first for Lingmerth

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — David Lingmerth was able celebrate his first PGA victory after knocking in a par putt on the third playoff hole to outlast Justin Rose at the Memorial.

Lingmerth led at the midway point of the tournament but began the final round three shots back before firing a 3-under 69 for a 15-under total.

Rose overcame a shank from a bunker on the final hole of regulation and hit a 55-yard pitch out of deep rough to 3 feet to save par for an even-par 72 to force the playoff.

Masters champion Jordan Spieth closed with a 65 and wound up in a tie for third with Francesco Molinari of Italy at minus-13.

Tiger Woods finished last in a tournament he has often dominated, 29 shots off the pace.

LPGA-MANULIFE

A low score and win for Pettersen

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario (AP) — Suzann Pettersen has won the LPGA's Manulife Classic in Ontario. She closed with a final round 3-under 69 to finish 22 under par. Runner-up Brittany Lang finished one stroke back following a 7-under-65.

The win for Pettersen is the 15th of her career and first since October of 2013.

CHAMPIONS TOUR-DES MOINES

Calcavecchia hangs on

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Mark Calcavecchia took the Principal Charity Classic for his third career Champions Tour title. He closed with a 3-under 69 for a one-stroke victory over Joe Durant and Brian Henninger.

Calcalavecchia never trailed in the final round and finished 12-under.
