Coyle nets winner

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Charlie Coyle scored the winner in a shootout, Matt Dumba had two goals in regulation and the Minnesota Wild beat Andrew Hammond and the Senators 3-2 on Tuesday night to stop Ottawa's five-game winning streak.

Devan Dubnyk made 31 saves and turned away Mike Hoffman in the fifth round of the shootout to secure Minnesota's 15th victory in 20 games.

Dumba scored twice in the second to notch his first career two-goal game and give Minnesota a 2-0 lead at 8:05 of the period.

Leopold joins Wild, back in Minnesota with happy family

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Jordan Leopold had thought about returning home, if the opportunity arose to play for the Minnesota Wild.

He never could have imagined his daughter becoming famous for her desire to have him back.

Leopold joined the Wild for the morning skate in preparation for their game Tuesday night against Ottawa, the 34-year-old slated to play on the third pair of defenseman with a bunch of his family members and friends bound to be in attendance.

This is what young Jordyn Leopold hoped for when she put her developing persuasive writing skills to use in a letter asking the Wild coaches to pursue a trade with Columbus to bring her dad back home.

Leopold said the whirlwind of the last several hours have been "a humbling experience."

Avalanche captain Landeskog, forward McLeod fined by NHL

NEW YORK (AP) — Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog and forward Cody McLeod were fined by the league for their actions in the waning seconds of a 3-1 loss to Minnesota on Saturday.

Landeskog was fined $5,000 for a punch he threw at Wild forward Mikko Koivu as both players headed to their benches with 3.3 seconds remaining. Landeskog was given a misconduct penalty.

The NHL docked McLeod $3,091.40 after he entered the game with 8.1 seconds left for the purpose of starting an altercation, the league said. The physical forward body-checked Minnesota center Mikael Granlund and then got into a skirmish with forward Charlie Coyle. McLeod drew a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct, a major for fighting and a misconduct penalty.
