Overnight Fire at Rochester Apartment Complex Under Investigation

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Firefighters responded to an overnight fire at a Rochester apartment building.

A news release issued by the Rochester Fire Department says crews responded to the three-story structure after receiving multiple fire calls early Wednesday. 

The first firefighters to arrive found flames coming from a window on the third floor of the building. A spokesperson for the Rochester Fire Department described the situation as a “major fire.”

The fire broke out at the Meadow Park Apartments at 426 4th Ave Southeast. Crews responded to the blaze around 2:40 a.m.

 Five engines were at the scene. Firefighters made their way into the apartment and extinguished what the news release describes as a significant fire that was torching one of the units.

Crews also found the flames had breached the ceiling and began efforts to smother any fire extension. Firefighters ventilated smoke and gasses from the building once the fire was put out. 

No one was inside of the burning apartment unit and no injuries were reported. Crews remained at the scene to determine the habitability of the apartment building. 

It’s unclear as of Wednesday morning how many residents have been displaced by the fire. 

The apartment where the fire was discovered suffered significant damage. Smoke damage was also reported in the adjacent units. A dollar damage estimate is not yet available. 

The Fire Marshal’s Division responded to the scene to investigate the fire. A cause has not yet been determined.

Mayo Clinic Ambulance, Minnesota Energy, Rochester Public Utilities and the Rochester Police Department also responded to the fire call.
