Theft from Unlocked Vehicle Reported at Rochester Dog Park

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Authorities responded to the report of a theft from a vehicle parked at one of Rochester’s dog parks Wednesday evening.

It comes as the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office says they're seeing an uptick in reported thefts from vehicles that typically occurs as warmer weather arrives.

Authorities have previously stated that prospective thieves often patrol Rochester’s parking lots looking for valuable items left inside of empty vehicles.

In some cases locked car doors will not stop thieves from stealing property left in plain view inside of unoccupied vehicles.

Purse Reported Stolen from Unlocked Vehicle at Rochester Dog Park

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Captain Tim Parkin said the latest theft from a vehicle was reported at the Rochester North Dog Park at 6252 West River Rd. Northwest.

The victim, described as a female, reported the theft shortly after 7:30 p.m. Parkin said someone had stolen the victim's purse out of her unlocked vehicle.

She then reported an unauthorized purchase had been made with one of her credit cards. So far no arrest has been made and the investigation into the purse theft is ongoing.

Parkin is reminding residents to not leave valuables in plain sight inside of empty vehicles. He also is encouraging anyone who sees suspicious activity to report it to law enforcement.
