VIRGINIA, Minn. (AP) — After 38 years, a Minnesota lake has given up an Iron Range man's long-lost class ring.

Jon Perpich was boating with his wife on Lake Vermilion a week before their 38th anniversary last month when he sailed into the bay where his 1974 Virginia High School ring flew off his finger in 1977. They recalled the incident, and Marilyn Perpich said he'd never see that ring again.

But August 21st, one day after their anniversary, the ring was back on Jon Perpich's finger.

The Mesabi Daily News reports that 18-year-old Brody Skala found the ring. He doesn't remember the exact day, but remembers how it just slid onto his finger while he was picking clams.

Skala used initials on the ring and a yearbook to determine it was Perpich's.
