Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A Rochester man was sentenced today for a conviction stemming from a robbery and assault last summer.

23-year-old Mohamed Ismail Mohamed was given a 33 month prison sentence with credit for the 155 days he has already spent in jail. He earlier entered into a plea agreement and admitted to a simple robbery charge in exchange for the dismissal of a first-degree aggravated robbery charge.

Mohamed and two other men were accused of attacking a man while he was walking on a path near Silver Lake Park on June 3, 2023. According to the criminal complaint, the victims reported that he was beaten up and robbed of his wallet.

He told police that two of the men, one of them later identified as Mohamed, started punching his head and body before pushing him to the ground and choking him when he refused to hand over his property.

The court document says the victim told officers that one of the men eventually pulled his wallet from his jean pocket and all three of the attackers ran away. The officers noted the victim had numerous injuries on his body that were consistent with the recent assault.

Meanwhile, another officer spotted three men matching the descriptions of the robbers just blocks away from the crime scene near the bridge at Silver Lake Park. The criminal complaint says the trio was detained and brought to the victim, who identified them as his attackers.

Mohamed was previously convicted of third-degree assault for a mugging at a downtown Rochester hotel in June 2021. He was sentenced to five years on probation and was ordered to pay $3400 in restitution.
