A fire apparently caused by a woodburning stove broke out last night inside a residence along Highway 52, south of Zumbrota.

The Goodhue County Sheriff’s Department says Eric Blakstad called 911 around 7:30 to report the fire. Blakstad says he had started a fire in the stove located in the basement after returning home and then went to his detached garage for awhile. As he began walking back to the house, he  saw smoke and flames coming from the roof area.

Crews from Pine Island, Wanamingo and Zumbrota were called to battle the fire.

No word yet on the damage. The house is located in the 46000 block of Highway 52.
