Minneapolis, MN (Learfield Wire Services)  -  Joey King nailed six 3-pointers and scored a career-high 22 as the Minnesota Golden Gophers pulled away from Missouri-Kansas City 76-58 in Friday’s season opener.  

The basketball Gophers' lead at half was just 32-30. They steadily widened the margin by hitting eight-of-12 shots from long range after intermission.  LaVell Boyd led the Kangaroos with 25 points. The visitors led by nine at one point in the first half, but couldn't hold on.

Guard Nate Mason scored 11 points and dished out seven assists.

The Gophers host Louisiana-Monroe Sunday.
