Based on preliminary numbers, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety is projecting the 2014 traffic death toll in the state will be about 370, which would be the second lowest total since 1944.

At last report, the department had been notified of 356 traffic related deaths in Minnesota last year. There were 387 traffic fatalities in the state in 2013.

There was a significant decline in pedestrian deaths in 2014. After peaking at 71 deaths in 1986, pedestrian fatalities dropped to 17 according to preliminary numbers — the lowest number from 1984 through 2014
