Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester Police have released the name of the Stewartville woman who suffered severe injuries when she was struck by a car on 2nd Street Southwest around 6:45 Friday morning.

Police Lieutenant Mike Sadauskis says 47-year-old Karlys Koens was crossing the busy street at the intersection with 18th Avenue Southwest when she was hit by an eastbound car driven by 38-year-old Nicole Alexander of Rochester.

Sadauskis says investigators determined Koens was in the pedestrian crosswalk and a car in the right lane stopped to allow her to cross the street when she was hit by the vehicle driven by Alexander in the left lane. She told police she did not see Koens, who was rushed to nearby St. Marys Hospital. As of Friday afternoon, Koens was listed in critical condition.

The preliminary results of the investigation did not find any evidence of impairment by the motorist and at this point, no citations have been issued. Lieutenant Sadauskis says the incident remains under investigation.
