Rochester, MN  (KROC AM News) -  Rochester police have released the name of the man who died as a result of what appears to have been an attempted murder-suicide.

Police Captain John Sherwin says 71-year-old a Fereydoun Behnam of Red Wing was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a car that was parked in the 900 block of 30th Street Northwest. It’s believed he was the man seen leaving a home at 2914 9th Avenue Northwest shortly after a 48-year-old woman left the house and collapsed on the front sidewalk.

When the first officers responding to reports of a medical emergency arrived at the scene around 9:15 a.m., they discovered the woman had been shot several times in the chest and upper body. She was rushed to St. Mary’s Hospital and was listed in critical condition Monday afternoon. Her name has not been released.

Officials earlier indicated the woman had been involved in a previous relationship with Behnam.

Police are not looking for any additional suspects and are expected to release additional information about the investigation on Tuesday.
