What Do We Say in Rochester – Kuh-Row-Key or Kare-Eee-Oh-Kee?

The word is "karaoke." How do you say it? Kuh-Row-Key or Kare-Eee-Oh-Kee? The battle rages from town to town, state to state, and maybe even across the ocean! Well, I'm going to check the dictionary, and that'll settle it once and for all, or my name isn't James Thaddeus Rabe, former Lord of the Night, current Duke of Dawn.

Let's go to the dictionary...well, the Googles, anyway.

karaoke - noun
ˌkerēˈōkē
a form of entertainment, offered typically by bars and clubs, in which people take turns singing popular songs into a microphone over prerecorded backing tracks. 1970s: from Japanese, literally ‘empty orchestra.’

So it's Kare-Eee-Oh-Kee.  Huh, I was pretty sure it'd say Kuh-Row-Key. Whatever, stupid dictionary. This Thursday is the Rochsterfest Karaoke Extravaganze, and it is so much fun! Even when it rains, and it has, we rock it out! Check out my first year, 2015!

Want to be a part of this year's KE? Well, then get yer butt down to the Rochesterfest event space at Soldiers Field Thursday at 5:30. If you just want to watch, that's cool, be there by (tho, if you want a bleacher seat, you better show up much earlier).

Here's what you need to know to compete, or just watch...

Karaoke Extravaganza

• Soldiers Field Park on the Treasure Island Stage
• Mini-Auditions 5:30 PM – 6:45 PM
• The event begins at 7:00 PM
• Contestants must be between 15 and 25-years-old now and on September 29 and 30 2018.
• Not all will be chosen to compete.
• Two rounds, with the top three in each advancing to the Championship Round.
• Prizes – First place in each qualifying round receives $75, second place in each round receives $50, third place receives $25. Grand Champion receives $300
