Minneapolis(KROC AM News) - The Minnesota Vikings announced Tuesday the formal signing of Rochester native Marcus Sherels.

According to a source, Sherels signed a two year, $4 million contract. The contract guarantees $1.5 million.

He was first signed by the Vikings as an undrafted free agent in 2010 and established himself as a punt returner and special teams player.

Through the 2015 season, Sherels was ranked 3rd in team history in career punt return yards. He needs just 306 yards to move to the top of the career list. He had 311 yards and a TD during the 2015 season.

Sherels already has set the franchise record for career punt return touchdowns (3) and the most 50 yard punt returns (5).

Sherels has become a consistent supporter of charitable causes and organizations, including the Rochester Boys and Girls Club.

He also made his first appearance - and first jump - at Rochester's Polar Plunge in February.
