St. Paul, MN (Minnesota News Network) -  An administrative law judge has ruled in favor of two unions who filed claims against North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

The unions accused the hospital of committing unfair labor practices by infringing upon protected union activity.

SEIU Healthcare Minnesota and the Minnesota Nurses Association say North Memorial was also ordered to reinstate union member and hospital employee Melvin Anderson, who was fired after an informational picket outside of the hospital last year. Anderson will receive back pay for all of his time lost over the last year.

Anderson says getting his job and paycheck back is a “huge victory and shows that workers can’t be fired for speaking out for issues like patient safety.”
