Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Did you notice the sudden change in the weather Friday morning?

The temperature at the Rochester airport reached 30 degrees around 10:00 AM Tuesday and stayed in the 30’s until around 8:00 PM Thursday. Frigid air that moved into the region Thursday evening knocked the airport temperature to around zero Friday morning - a 32-degree swing in 24 hours.

It will remain cold Friday but warmer weather is expected through the weekend with highs approaching 40 degrees on Sunday.

The National Weather says the Monday morning commute could be a mess.

The agency says “ a messy wintry mix of snow and freezing rain appears increasingly likely for parts of the area on Monday. At this time, the most significant ice accumulation potential exists for areas near and north of Interstate 90, but that could shift depending on the track of the storm. Those with travel plans through the area Monday should pay close attention to later forecasts this weekend.”

The good news for Rochester motorists who may face a rough commute - it’s Presidents Day, which means there will be no K-12 school and few yellow buses on the roads.
