MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A University of Minnesota police officer says he's sore but feeling lucky after a drunken driving suspect rear-ended his squad car.

Officer Geoff Maciejewski  was hurt early Saturday after pulling over a woman for speeding on Highway 280.

Maciejewski had just walked over to the woman's car when another car smashed into the back of his cruiser.

The officer says he remembers headlights moving toward him quickly before he either fell or was knocked to the ground. Minnesota Public Radio News reports Maciejewsk says he is a bit sore but suffered only minor injuries.

The Minnesota State Patrol says the man who smashed into the squad car is a 34-year-old from River Falls, Wisconsin. He allegedly was driving with a suspended license. He remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
