Minneapolis ( Minnesota News Network) -  Today is the home opener for the Minnesota Twins, who entertain the defending American League champion Kansas City Royals at Target Field.

As usual, there will be a lot of pregame festivities to commemorate the first home game of the 2015 season.  Former Twins president Jerry Bell will have a plaque in his honor unveiled outside of Gate 29 at Target Field.  A pregame concert will be performed by Shawn Mendes, who will also sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame" during the seventh inning stretch.

Prior to the game, the nation anthem will be performed by Twin Cities actress Greta Oglesby.  There is a scheduled patriotic flyover conducted by two F-16s from the Duluth-based 148th Fighter Wing of the Minnesota Air National Guard at 2:57 p.m.

Timberwolves forward Kevin Garnett will throw out the first pitch to Twins outfielder Torii Hunter.

The game itself is scheduled to begin at 3:10 p.m.  Gates to the ballpark open at 1 p.m.  Coverage on KROC AM begins at 2:30.
