MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A man convicted of attacking a Brooklyn Park police officer has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Twenty-five-year-old Lance Carr was convicted last month of first-degree assault for the attack that injured Officer Sean Hyman last November.

KARE-TV reports the officer was responding to a loud noise complaint when he encountered Carr and discovered he had a warrant out for his arrest. Squad car video released last month shows Carr punching and strangling Hyman for more than three minutes until another officer intervened.

The officer's gun discharged during the struggle, but no one was hit. Hyman collapsed following the struggle and was taken away on a stretcher. He missed about two weeks of work while recovering from his injuries.
