Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Minnesota Timberwolves have given a $5,000 grant to the Rochester-based Channel One Regional Food Bank for its backpack program.

The donation from the team’s FastBreak Foundation will allow Channel One to provide backpacks of food for area students each weekend throughout the school year.

Channel One Regional Food Bank’s Backpack Program serves 22 different schools in Olmsted County and more than 1,000 students. Last fiscal year, 121,780 pounds of food were distributed through the Channel One Backpack Program.

“We are very grateful for the Minnesota Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation grant. This grant will allow us to purchase food that we will distribute to children in need in our community through the Channel One Backpack Program. The backpack program provides food for kids in need on the weekends during the school year. Without proper nutrition, these children cannot learn and grow. We are grateful for this partnership that will help us feed students in need,” said Jennifer Woodford, Executive Director of Channel One Regional Food Bank.

The Timberwolves FastBreak Foundation provides and supports hands-on programs that positively impact Minnesota youth. Through giving, education and basketball opportunities, the Foundation enables young people to make responsible decisions, contribute to their futures, and experience lifelong memories.
