Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Minnesota summer of 2015 has gone into the books as a fairly quiet one.  

Assistant State Climatologist Pete Boulay says there were 24 confirmed tornadoes during the June - August period. That’s three fewer than average. Boulay says the biggest weather event took place on July 12th when there was a breakout of severe storms in the northern part of the state. The storms caused widespread damage in the Brainerd lakes area.

Rochester’s meteorological summer was cooler and drier than normal.  The average temperature for the summer was 67.8, which is 1.6 degrees below normal. The warmest day was June 9th when the mercury hit 93 - the only 90 of the summer.  Normally, Rochester has 10 days during the summer period when the mercury hits 90 or better.

The three month precipitation total was 12.56 inches, which is 1.19 inches below normal.
