The Ice is Still Getting Thicker!

A team from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers went back onto the ice covering Lake Pepin Wednesday for a third round of measurements to gauge when the shipping season might begin this spring.

They found the thickness of the ice continued to increase in some areas. The thickest measurement was found just south of Lake City at 27 inches. That’s 4 inches thicker than it was a week ago at the same site and is a half foot thicker than it was when the first measurements were taken on February 18th.
