Summer Vacation is Over; Time to Head Back to School
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The 2016/2017 year begins Tuesday for Rochester’s Catholic and public schools.
The K-12 enrollment at the public schools is projected to be around 17,600 (8525 elementary, 8792 secondary and 302 special for a total of 17619). The public school academic year will end June 8th.
Lourdes High School is reporting an enrollment total of 434 students. This year will be the first without students who attended the former Lourdes building. The new building opened in the fall of 2013.
The University of Minnesota-Rochester also begins its new academic year Tuesday. UMR says this will be one of the largest incoming classes in campus history.
UMR is anticipating more than 185 new students. This includes freshmen, transfer and PSEO students. UMR’s enrollment is expected to be around 625. In addition to the new students, UMR says there will be a few new firsts this year. The school will welcome students into three new living learning communities focused on developing future healthcare leaders: The Health CORE, Community of Respect and Empowerment; Global Connections; and ROC!, Recovery on Campus. Students in these new living learning communities will live, learn, and lead together around issues critical to the future of healthcare.The outcomes of these programs are expected to support UMR student success and influence evidence-based innovation in higher education.
