Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester police officers had their hands full Tuesday with a suicidal man.

Officers were first contacted around noon and went to the man’s residence in the 4200 block of 22nd Avenue NW.

Police Captain John Sherwin says because it was known the man had some guns at his home, the department’s Emergency Response Unit was called in. The man - 26-year-old Thomas Frankel - eventually agreed to come out and he was taken to St. Mary’s hospital for a psychological evaluation.

Sherwin says doctors later decided he should be released. Frankel returned to his home where he began looking for his guns, which had been removed by police. Sherwin says after causing considerable damage there, Frankel drove to a relative’s home where he ransacked that residence. Police were contacted again and arrested Frankel when he returned home.

He is expected to face multiple charges.
