Stewartville Woman Sentenced in Extreme Neglect Case
Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - A 74-year-old Stewartville woman has been sentenced to three years on probation in a neglect case that resulted in her being charged with second degree manslaughter.
Shirley Kraemer admitted to a felony count of Criminal Neglect of a Vulnerable Adult Causing Great Bodily Harm through a plea agreement that led to the dismissal of the manslaughter charge.
She was charged after a 76-year-old woman was found in a bed inside a home in High Forest Township last November in extreme pain and suffering from what her doctors described as “severe, profound and physical neglect.” She died several days later and an autopsy determined her death was caused by septic shock, along with skin and bone infections.
Kraemer indicated the victim had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis about 10 years ago and investigators learned the two women were suspicious of doctors and failed to follow through with treatments.
